Offpiste with SMX

Last year’s revolutionary new winter sport device from North Legion has now been taken to its ultimate test, the backcountry challenge. Much due to Darren Berrecloth’s interview during the 06 adidas winter slopestyle, North Legion was forced to rush the development of fat powder skis for the SMX.
When “the claw” tells the whole world he wants to ride the SMX on the big mountain you don’t sit around waiting….you make things happen, and that’s what North Legion did! So, a few months later North Legion had their first prototype fatskis made up and was ready to put them into action.
A handful of our test pilots were flown in and a Camera crew was summoned to document the action which was about to take place. The crew had a ball and really pushed the envelope for SMX riding. They were going bigger, more stylish and doing more technical tricks than we had seen before. They also put the new SMX rig to its test by negotiating steep sections which are usually only ridden by experienced big mountain skiers. This winter the pressure is back on Darren and we sure look forward to seeing him rip the Canadian backcountry on his SMX.
